A Center Hole Punch is a tool with a pointed end that makes a dimple in your piece of material right where you intend to drill a hole. It gives a physical resting place for a drill bit so it stays right where you want your hole to be.
Quick and easy marking: Center punches are a necessity for accurate drilling applications to mark the point and allow drill bit tip to align to the marked area.
Durable construction: Our center punch is constructed from heavy duty metal to resist against corrosion and impact giving it extra durability.
Comfortable grip: The ball end allows user to grasp center punch in a comfortable position to make punching much easier and more precise.
Spring loaded adjustability: Center punch is great on a multitude of materials and you can simply screw the cap in both clockwise and anti-clockwise positions to adjust the amount of depth the punches will create.
Suitable for variety of tasks: From construction to automotive. Can be used as an awl for belts or glass window breaker for car safety.
Used this to create center holes that allow me to have better control when drilling into metal. It keeps the drill bit from roaming about during the initial drill process. Ofcourse you could always get a nail and hammer to achieve the same results but this is an all-in-one tool and for the price, I see no reason not to add this to my tool kit.
Rest piece at the top has a function too. Unscrewing it counter-clockwise reduces the force of impact. I will be using this mostly on metals so I have it set to the highest force of impact. I sometimes have to do it twice but it varies by the metal material itself. Recommended
This is exactly what I was looking for. I have just begun to learn how to turn pens on a wood lathe and needed something that would put a decent hole in the ends of a pen blank to mount on the lathe properly. LOVE the ability to adjust the tension with a simple twist to use on soft or hardwoods. Fits well in my hand, too.
I have used this in my home shop and am very pleased. It works great on aluminum but I haven’t tried it with steel. I usually use a punch with a hammer to make the dent bigger but this tool is great since it works when with one hand when the other hand is holding the material. The sharp point also is easier to see that it is punching in the exact spot wanted.
I bought this not for creating a mark for drilling but to test against punches sold as emergency window breakers and to see if it would work as such since it has the large head on it instead of being a skinny device about the size of a pen and would be easier to handle in an emergency. As such I test them on wood and this creates an indentation as deep as the punches sold as emergency window breakers and the large knob makes it much easier to handle, especially in an emergency where something smaller might slip out of my hand.
This is great tool in the wood shop. I do a lot of wood turning and have to make a hole for the centers of the stock to be turned. I wish I would have bought this punch along time ago. It is so great to work with. All I have to do is line up on the point to the dot and push and bang it's that fast. The best part is that you can adjust the tension to use it on harder wood that takes more power to make a hole. Very pleased !
Every once in a great while I find a new tool so great that I wonder how I got along without it for so many years. This is great for making a pilot hole before drilling, or for marking the spot for a nail to hang a picture. Such a simple and effective concept. I love it.
