5-STONE CONTROLLED-ANGLE SHARPENING SYSTEM
Keep all your knives honed with a professional, razor sharp edge with this Precision Knife Sharpening Kit. This Kit comes with five sharpening hones of different coarseness:
1 x Ultra-coarse Stone (Black) - Super fast cutting stone cuts away large amounts of steel from extremely dull, deteriorated edges.
1 x Coarse Stone (Red) - Use to start edges on all types of knives
1 x Medium Stone (Green) - Excellent for keeping a fine edge sharp edge on all knives
1 x Fine Stone (Blue) -For touching up and finishing a sharp edge
1 x Ultra-Fine Stone(Yellow) -This high alumina ceramic stone is used only on blades that are already extremely sharp.
As a result, you'll have the tools to sharpen virtually any type of kitchen, hobby, or garden knife. This kit is very aggressive, and are the sharpener of choice for quickly setting an edge or resetting the edge to a different angle. That's because diamonds remove steel much faster than their aluminum oxide counterparts.
HOW TO USE?
Simply secure the knife, choose your preferred angle, and you'll receive a sharp edge every time.
Each of the four angle options is suitable for a different knife type.
17 Degree Angle- A severe angle only recommended for Razor Blades, X-Acto Blades or similar tools. Yields an extremely sharp, but delicate edge,
20 Degree Angle- A commonly used angle for higher grade, quality blades. Provide an excellent edge that is perfect for kitchen knives.
25 Degree Angle- This is the recommended angle for most knives that need a durable, sharp edge. An ideal angle for hunting and outdoor knives.
30 Degree Angle- An outstanding angle for knives that see use as utility knives, like those used to cut cardboard, pallet straps or carpeting. Recommended for heavy duty use.
Each honing stone is color-coded, with finger-grooved safety holders to keep your hand secure. The kit also comes with a guide rod for each honing stone, extra-long knife clamp screws, a manual, and a custom molded storage/carrying case to hold all system components.
STEP 1 -Assemble selected stone on guide rod
STEP 2 - Lock the guide rod
STEP 3 -Securely attach knife clamp to blade
STEP 4 - Tighten the front screw to hold the knife securely.
STEP 5 - Choose the preferred angle and start sharpening your blade
gave this to my husband as a gift and our kitchen knives are so sharp.... I had thought they were sharp before, but the edge this set puts on a knife is simply amazing. Easy to use, too.
i've sharpened all of my favorite knives on this guy, they're all sharp enough to shave with and the edge stays very well on all of my good knives, the beater knives get sharp as well, just don't stay as long, can't blame the sharpener for that. Every other time i've ever tried sharpening knives they're usually worse than when I started. this setup works amazing, even if you have poor concentration like me.
Excellent sharpener. Takes a little practice but after getting the hang of it I've gotten my knives SHARP.
I love using this system.
There are a few cons to pros.
It cuts the sharpening time in 1/2 from the regular stone system. The extra course stone I rarely use (made for reprofiling).
But the rest are very nice.
This system plus the Ceramic stone (yellow) is a great Combo.
The clamp is tricky to get tight and needs a rubber grip so it doesn't scratch the spine of the knife if it moves.
The wire guides are VERY soft, so before using you have to place them in stone and lay them on a flat surface to make sure the two are level.
This is a great started and professional system. Once you get the hang of it, you can make knives scary sharp.
This product is awesome. The rubber grips on the clamp are a bit flimsy and do allow the knife to wobble the slightest bit, but I was just using the thumb screws to tighten the clamp and will use the screw to clamp it down a bit harder when I'm working on a knife that I care about. I was able to get the old beater fold out knife that I found in the garage to a really fine edge that will slice paper with no hesitation at all. This was with maybe a couple hours of work. If I had clamped it down better and took more time, I could have made it scary sharp, but I'll save that for a better knife.
If you have cheap knives and can't appreciate a well-honed knife anyhow, just get a simple sharpener with ceramic rods you pull the knife thru for a respectable job. If however you are willing to devote some time to achieve scary sharp results, this is for you. Read the instructions, count strokes and work thru the various grits to make a decent knife sharp as a razor! Spend the bucks and get the diamond set as most knives today have much higher Rockwell hardness ratings than the softer steels of yesteryear. Just be careful, a knife sharpened well will slice you terribly if you so much as drop it on your legs while working...I nearly did and now put a thick folded towel across my legs while sharpening. I put on my folding knife every day when I put on my pants and rarely does a day go by that I don't use it for something...It was even in my tux at my daughter's wedding and it came out to cut loose thread off her gown.
I’ve tried wet stones by hand but I just can’t get the hang of it. This system gets my knives stupid sharp pretty fast.
You will need some type of clamp or something to hold the knife holder in place. I use a small vice that’s on my work bench.
One thing I would recommend is practice on a knife you don’t care much about to get the hang of it. This will both get you comfortable using the system and will take off the excess diamond grit that could pile up and scratch your more expensive blades.
I use this for all steels and it works tremendously well, I can not recommend it enough. Works better when you have a strop to use afterwards.
Very impressed with how quickly and easily the diamond stones profiled and sharpened S30V on my Spyderco Lil Native and PM2. Definitely not a mirror edge, even after stropping, but very sharp and functional. Cuts through 440c like butter.
Very nice sharpening system. The clamp is a little cheesy, but workable. I have sharpened a couple of knives to the "Scary Sharp" level...works really well when you get it figured out!
Love this sharpening system. With this new system, I was able to sharpen my blades to a point that our usual array of fixed angle sharpeners could only dream of. Although I did encounter a small problem with blades of less size, I found that if I placed the blade as high as possible and really clamp down with a screwdriver on the top clamp, I was able to put a razor edge on a swiss army knife. Also it may mark up a mirror finish a little, and I imagine that just a rubber band buffer would solve this issue.
This is an excellent sharpening system that delivers great results. Take your time, follow the instructions and don't cut yourself! It's easier if you secure the blade clamp in a small vise but it can be held by hand. I've sharpened all my blades for various uses with this kit and I also purchased the sapphire finishing stone for a seriously sharp blade.
